My Osmose's presets suddenly sound very glitchy and seem transposed by several octaves

If your Osmose's presets suddenly sound very glitchy, emitting a "gurgling" or "blip blop" sound or seemingly no sound at all, then it's probably due to a MIDI message that was sent to Osmose’s USB MIDI Port 2 (the Haken port), which involuntarily reprogrammed essential global settings of the EaganMatrix. The result is that individual octave transpositions programmed as a vital part of the sound presets were no longer considered upon preset changes.

To remedy the situation, any of the options below will work:

Option 1) Change the global settings of the EaganMatrix via Haken Editor

This is the simplest option if you are already using Haken Editor.

  • Establish a connection between Osmose and Haken Editor by following this article: Connecting Osmose to the Haken Editor
  • Open the global settings in the Haken Editor by clicking on the cog wheel in the upper right.
  • Make sure all “Preset Loading” parameters on the bottom left are set to “Replace”, not “Preserve”, specifically for “Surface Processing”, see below:

Option 2) Change the global settings of the EaganMatrix via sending a MIDI CC message to Osmose

This is a straightforward option if you are familiar with setting up MIDI CC messages.

  • Send a MIDI CC#55 message with a value of 0 on MIDI channel #16 to USB MIDI Port 2 of Osmose (the Haken port). This will reset all three "Preset loading" values to their default value (Replace). Alternatively, you can send the message to the DIN MIDI input of Osmose if you have selected a "dsp in" option for the "din mode" in midi i/o tab.

Option 3) Use OsmoseUpdater’s advanced mode to reflash the Haken DSP firmware exclusively
Use this solution if you are not using Haken Editor and don't know how to send MIDI CC messages to Osmose. It's also explained on page 6 of the firmware update instructions.

  • Connect your Osmose to your computer.
  • Open OsmoseUpdater (be sure always to use its newest version) and activate the advanced mode by ticking the box in the upper left.
  • Click “update haken firmware” and select the newest *.osmoseupdate file. The DSP firmware reflash will initialize the global settings of the EaganMatrix.

---

For the future, please ensure that you do not send any MIDI messages to Osmose’s USB MIDI Port 2 except for MIDI messages dedicated to it, such as when replaying performances initially played on Osmose. On our end, with the upcoming Haken DSP version 10.40, the messages needed to recode the global settings of the EaganMatrix will be changed so that it becomes much less probable that a user triggers them by coincidence.
